While living in Chicago, Neil performed in shows at the Goodman and Steppenwolf theatres, and was nominated for a Joseph Jefferson Award for his performance in The Ballad of the Sad Café (1986). Besides gracing the stage as an actor, Neil also performed around town as an Improvisor, performing regularly at iO, most notably with the legendary iO team, “The Family”. Neil also worked with The Second City in various revues before moving to L.A., where he has had a successful theater, film, and television career. (He is best known for his role as Janitor in the comedy-drama Scrubs and currently plays Mike Heck in the ABC sitcom The Middle. )
While in L.A. Neil was part of yet another legendary iO improv team, “Beer Shark Mice”, which was known to perform to sold out houses at the iO West theater. He can still be seen performing from time to time at iO West.
