Del Close

Del CloseDel Close was an improvisational comedian who was the behind-the-scenes mentor of many of today’s -and past- comedians.

Following in the footsteps of Viola Spolin and her son, Paul Sills, Del Close helped raise improvisation to new heights and levels. His contribution to this work is the reason why Del will forever be a legend in the field of Improvisation.

By inspiring and influencing the minds and work of legendary past and current performers such as John Belushi, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Gilda Radner, Betty Thomas, John Candy, Chris Farley, Mike Myers, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Stephnie Weir, Tim Meadows, and countless other comedians and actors, Del Close has left -and continues to leave- his signature on today’s comedic world of entertainment.

In an interview for the underground cult hit Del Close documentary, “The Delmonic Interviews,” Amy Poehler gave perhaps the best definition of who Del Close was: “The most famous person in comedy that nobody knows.”

This promotional short for the documentary “The Delmonic Interviews” by Jeff Pacocha & Cesar Jaime gives a more in-depth look into who Del Close was.

In this tribute to Del Close, many of his past students share their thoughts on Del and what he meant to them and the field of improvisation.
